How to Set Up Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Webmaster Tools is the equivalent of Google Search Console for Microsoft's search ecosystem — and given how much AI-assisted search draws on Bing's index, it's a foundational step most businesses skip simply because they've never been asked to think about Bing directly.

About 30 minutes 7 steps Last updated:
  1. 1

Create a Microsoft account and sign in at bing.com/webmasters

This is free and separate from any Google account you already use.

  2. 2

Add your site and choose a verification method

The XML file, meta tag, or DNS record options mirror the same verification approaches available in Google Search Console.

  3. 3

Import from Google Search Console if you already have it set up

Bing Webmaster Tools offers a direct import option that pulls in your sitemap and site data, saving significant setup time.

  4. 4

    Submit your sitemap

Confirm it's the same sitemap URL you use for Google, submitted under the Sitemaps section.

  5. 5

Review the Site Explorer for crawl issues

Check for errors, blocked pages, and indexing problems the same way you would in Search Console.

  6. 6

Set up email alerts for critical issues

Bing Webmaster Tools can notify you of major crawl or security issues without needing to log in and check manually.

  7. 7

Explore the SEO Reports and Keyword Research tools

These are Bing-specific features not available in Search Console, useful for understanding your Bing-specific visibility.

Pro tips

  • Importing from Search Console is by far the fastest setup path — do this first before manually re-entering site data.
  • Once set up, this becomes the account you'll use for IndexNow submissions too.
