Comparison
Best GEO & AI-search-ready digital marketing agencies in South Africa.
We checked 8 well-known South African digital marketing agencies (plus ourselves) against a small set of checkable, technical GEO signals — not opinions about creative quality or client results, which we can't verify from outside. Checked live on 2026-08-18.
What this page does and doesn't measure
These are point-in-time technical checks against each agency's own public website: whether their robots.txt names AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot etc.) and what it says about them, whether their homepage carries structured data (JSON-LD schema.org markup) and what types, whether /llms.txt resolves to real content, and roughly how many pages their sitemap lists. It says nothing about the quality of their strategy, their client results, their pricing, or how good their people are — those things matter more than any of this, and we haven't tried to assess them. Websites change; verify current state yourself before treating any row as current.
| Agency | AI crawler policy | Schema types | llms.txt | Sitemap pages |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| doubleBaRRiL (us) | Explicitly allows | 14 types | Real | 235 |
| Top Click | Blocks major AI bots | 5 types | Real | 10 |
| Aion Marketing | Default allow (no rule) | 5 types | Real | 78 |
| Black Snow | Default allow (no rule) | 4 types | Returns 200, not real content | 70 |
| FGX | Default allow (no rule) | 5 types | Real | 228 |
| V8 Media | Default allow (no rule) | 4 types | Returns 200, not real content | 227 |
| Roger Wilco | Default allow (no rule) | None found | Real | 545 |
| Mo Agency | Default allow (no rule) | 4 types | Not present | 559 |
| Flume | Explicitly allows | 12 types | Not present | 343 |
Schema type counts reflect distinct schema.org @type values found in each site's homepage JSON-LD at time of check, not a quality judgment of how that markup is used.
Where competitors are ahead
Flume has the most deliberately AI-forward robots.txt of any agency we checked, including doubleBaRRiL's — it explicitly names and allows GPTBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, CCBot, anthropic-ai, Claude-Web and ChatGPT-User, with a comment stating the policy is intentional. Its homepage schema is also the broadest we found, including LocalBusiness, AggregateRating, Person and VideoObject markup. That's a genuinely strong technical GEO foundation, and worth crediting even though Flume is a competitor.
On raw content volume, Mo Agency (559 sitemap pages), Roger Wilco (545) and FGX (228) all list more pages than doubleBaRRiL's 235 — likely reflecting longer publishing histories. More indexed pages isn't the same as more AI citations, but it's a real, checkable gap on this one dimension.
Checkable gaps we found
- Top Click's
robots.txtexplicitly disallows GPTBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended, and sets a Content-Signalai-train=nodirective — a defensible choice, but one that means their content structurally cannot be cited by those AI systems regardless of its quality. - Roger Wilco's homepage carries no JSON-LD structured data at all — nothing for AI systems or search engines to parse beyond raw text.
- Black Snow and V8 Media both serve a
/llms.txtURL that returns HTTP 200 but isn't real content — Black Snow's is a "page not found" page, V8 Media's serves the homepage itself. - V8 Media's homepage meta description currently reads "Explore our diverse range of South African lifestyle products..." — unrelated to digital marketing services, likely a leftover from a template or a different site.
- Mo Agency and Flume don't currently have an
llms.txtfile at all.
Where we stand, honestly
doubleBaRRiL's robots.txt allows all AI crawlers with no disallow rules, backed by a Cloudflare Content Signals policy (ai-input=yes, ai-train=yes). Our homepage carries the widest schema.org type coverage of any site in this comparison (Organization, LocalBusiness, WebSite, Person, Service, AggregateOffer, Review, AggregateRating, WebPage, BreadcrumbList and more across the site), and our llms.txt resolves to real, maintained content. We don't yet match Mo Agency's or Roger Wilco's raw page count, and Flume's crawler policy is at least as explicit as ours. We'll keep this page updated as that changes on either side.
