Schema Markup (Structured Data)
Standardised code — typically JSON-LD, based on the schema.org vocabulary — added to a webpage that explicitly tells search engines what the content means: this is a FAQ, this is a review, this is a local business with these opening hours. It is housekeeping that helps search engines understand a page; it does not guarantee rich results, and there is no demonstrated evidence that AI assistants read JSON-LD specifically.
Why it matters
It lets search engines read your key facts instead of guessing at them. That is worth doing accurately, but it is housekeeping rather than a growth lever: Google stopped showing FAQ rich results from 7 May 2026, and HowTo rich results were removed in 2023.
