Performance marketing agency in Johannesburg

PPC is a billing model. Performance marketing is a standard of accountability: every channel is held to a commercial outcome, and the ad platform's own numbers are checked against yours before anyone relies on them. We run paid media for B2B companies in Johannesburg and across South Africa, and we start with the measurement, because campaigns optimise towards whatever they are told is a conversion.

What we hold paid media to

Three numbers, in this order.

Cost per qualified lead

Not cost per click, not cost per form fill. Our proposal is to agree in writing what counts as a lead your sales team would actually pick up, before anything is measured.

Pipeline contribution

What the leads from each channel became in your CRM. A channel that produces cheap leads nobody closes is expensive.

Reconciliation

We would compare the conversion count in the ad platform against what the CRM recorded. Where they disagree, that is the first thing to resolve, not a footnote.

How an engagement starts

We would start with an audit.

The most expensive failure in paid media is the quietest: automated bidding faithfully optimising towards a conversion nobody checked. So a typical engagement would begin with an audit, in this order.

  1. 01

    Read every conversion action

What each one counts, which are primary, which are secondary, and which feed automated bidding. Automated bidding optimises towards all of them, so the list is worth reading in full.

  2. 02

    Find anything counted twice

A thank-you page and a form-submit event, a call asset and a call conversion, an Analytics import next to a native tag. Duplication distorts bidding at all times, and is hardest to spot when traffic shifts.

  3. 03

    Test the tracking itself

We would check that the conversion linker is present, that consent state behaves as Google documents it, that server-side events, where used, arrive once rather than twice, and that any first-party subdomain still resolves.

  4. 04

    Agree what a lead is

We would propose a short written definition, agreed with whoever owns the pipeline, before budget decisions are made.

  5. 05

    Choose bidding from the evidence

Conversion volume and value should decide the strategy, not preference. Smart Bidding optimises towards whatever it is told is a conversion, so the earlier steps decide the outcome of this one.

Our guides on auditing conversion actions and choosing a Smart Bidding strategy set out the same checks, free and without a form.

What we need from you

Access, a definition and a decision-maker.

  • Admin access to the ad accounts, Analytics and Tag Manager. We recommend the accounts are held in your company's name.
  • Access to the CRM, or an export of lead outcomes, so results can be reconciled against sales rather than platform counts.
  • One person who can say what a qualified lead is and who has the authority to change it.
  • The history of what has been tried, including what was stopped and why.
  • Your position on consent and privacy, from your own legal advice, so tracking is built around it.

What we would avoid

Honest limits.

  • Promise rankings, lead volumes or a return on ad spend. Nobody controls the auction.
  • Treat clicks, impressions or platform conversions as business outcomes in reporting.
  • Change spend on the strength of numbers nobody has checked. We would propose the conversion audit first.
  • Promise an outcome from any channel. Results depend on the market, your offer and your sales process, and we would say so before work starts.

Common questions

What happens in the first 30 days?

We would propose an audit rather than a campaign launch. That means reading the conversion actions, testing the tracking, comparing the platform's count against your CRM and agreeing a written definition of a qualified lead, then giving you a short written note of what looks broken, what cannot be determined and what we propose to change. Budget decisions follow from that.

What if our tracking turns out to be broken?

It is common for an account to have some issue, and that is not a reason to stop. Duplicate conversions, a missing conversion linker or primary and secondary actions set the wrong way round are examples that are cheap to fix and change what later decisions are based on. We would fix measurement first and say plainly which past results should be discounted as a consequence.

Our sales cycle is long. How do you measure a lead?

By feeding what happens in the CRM back into the ad platform, so bidding learns from qualified leads and closed work rather than form submissions. Google recommends enhanced conversions for leads for this, and it needs a lead identifier captured on the form and your CRM to record status changes. Our guide to sending CRM outcomes back to Google Ads covers the mechanics.

Which platform should we start with?

We would decide after the audit, from your own conversion data. Search tends to meet demand that already exists; other channels create it, and they need more volume and more patience to read. A platform chosen before anyone has checked what your conversions mean is a guess with a budget attached.

Ads can appear in AI Overviews in some countries. Does that change how reporting should work?

It changes what we would check, not what anyone can promise. Google's help documentation says ads in AI Overviews cannot be targeted on their own and there is no specific opt-out, and the reporting does not show how much of your performance came from that surface. Its page lists the English-language rollout in a set of countries that does not currently include South Africa, but those limits apply wherever it runs. The practical response is to establish a baseline, separate branded from non-branded results and read the conversion actions before drawing conclusions.

What do you need from us to start?

Admin access to the ad accounts, Analytics and Tag Manager, access to your CRM or an export of lead outcomes, one person who can define a qualified lead, and the history of what has been tried. If your accounts are currently held by a previous agency in their name, we would treat moving them into yours as an early practical task.
