Domain Authority (DA)
A third-party score (popularised by Moz, with equivalents from Ahrefs and Semrush) that estimates how likely a website is to rank, based mainly on the quality and quantity of its backlink profile. It's not a Google metric, but a widely used proxy for site authority.
Why it matters
It's a useful, if imperfect, way to benchmark your site's authority against competitors before investing in a link-building campaign.
Example
A DA of 15 competing against established players with a DA of 60 explains why the same content ranks very differently for each site.
